Every Country Has a Different Deadline

For a multinational group, ESG disclosure is not one deadline but several running in parallel.

Applicable standards, size thresholds, first reporting years and assurance start dates are arranged differently in each jurisdiction. The difficulty is not any single regime — it is the year they overlap.

One group, several clocks

A parent and its overseas subsidiaries run the same business, but each disclosure duty arises in its own jurisdiction. One entity is already reporting, another is not yet in scope, and a third has a year fixed in advance. At group level this reads as a single programme; at the level of the people doing the work it is several deadlines running side by side.

The hard part is the overlapping year, not the individual standard

Understanding one standard is a matter of study. What breaks a team is the year in which first reports and assurance mandates from two or three jurisdictions land together. In that year data collection, internal review and external assurance are demanded at once, and the same staff fill three different templates in parallel.

A timetable is a resourcing plan, not a regulatory summary

Place the jurisdictional dates on a single time axis and the picture stops being a compliance summary and becomes a headcount and budget plan. Once the loaded year is visible, the secretariat can be opened, the assurance provider contracted and the data systems rebuilt ahead of it. Knowing a deadline and being able to absorb it are different achievements.

Where to start in practice

Put legal entities down the rows and calendar years across the columns, and write the applicable standard and obligation stage in each cell. Read the table vertically to find the bottleneck year; read it horizontally to see which entity has to finish first. That single page is enough to justify standing up a disclosure function.
